In other words, Bachelor of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) is a course which deals with curing, treating as well as studying the various diseases occurring in animals and birds, thus studying the physiology of the animals in detail. The Bachelor of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) degree course covers the study of subjects like Veterinary Anatomy & Histology, Veterinary Physiology, Veterinary Biochemistry, Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology, Veterinary Parasitology, etc. The degree course is awarded after successfully completing a 4½ to 5 years program of study.

The basic eligibility criterion for pursuing Bachelor of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) degree is qualifying 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with a minimum of 50% marks secured from a recognised board of the country.

Veterinary Council of India conducts an All India Common Entrance Examination known as All India Pre-Veterinary Test (AIPVT) in the month of May each year for filling up of 15% of the total no. of seats of each Veterinary college of the States where the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984 extends.

Some of the State Universities also conduct separate entrance examination to get admission to their B.V.Sc. & A.H degree course. Selection to the degree course in these colleges is based on marks secured in the final merit i.e. total marks aggregated in the final exams of 10+2 and the entrance exam.

They should have a genuine love and compassion for animals and be able to read the signs from the animal's behaviour and diagnose the ailment.
